ATCO Blue River Camp workers vote to join UNITE HERE Local 40

ATCO camp workers in Blue River have voted 93 per cent in favour of joining UNITE HERE Local 40. This comes on the heels of the recent unionization of Valemount ATCO camp workers who voted to join Local 40 this January.

ATCO Blue River Camp, which consists of nearly 40 housekeeping and culinary staff, is the second ATCO camp to unionize on the Trans Mountain pipeline.

“Congratulations to ATCO Blue River camp workers who voted to join Local 40,” said Robert Demand, Local 40 Executive Director and BC Building Trade Executive Board Member. “The high percentage who voted yes to join our union goes to show that camp workers are ready to come together and fight to improve their job and living conditions. On behalf of our camp members across BC, I warmly welcome Blue River workers to the Union and look forward to working with them on their first contract proposal.”

UNITE HERE Local 40 welcomes ATCO Blue River workers, who will join hundreds of newly organized camp members including those at Civeo, Horizon North Kitimat, Kitimat LNG and Parsnip Lodge.
