The Prince George Cougars (19-31-2-1) are winless in their last six after Saturday’s 3-1 loss to the visiting Spokane Chiefs (17-31-4-1) at the CN Centre.

Prince George fell behind 2-0 in the first period and never could claw back despite a strong push back in the last 30 minutes.

Koehn Ziemmer scored the team’s lone goal, on the power play, early in the second period. Ziemmer had a game-high nine shots on net and was named second star. Ty Young made his first start since February 18 and stopped 27 shots.

Twenty-year-old Nick McCarry scored twice for Spokane and was named the game’s first star. Mason Beaupit was solid in the Chiefs’ net, as he turned aside 33 of 34 shots. He stopped all 19 shots he faced in the final frame.

Prince George rebounded on the penalty kill, going 4-5, including killing-off a five-minute Chiefs’ power play in the second period. Ziemmer’s goal made it five-straight games with a power play marker the Cougars.

With their weekend sweep, the Chiefs have moved within two points of the Cougars for seventh place in the Western Conference.

The Cougars have now lost nine in a row at home dating back to January 21st.

With his goal Saturday, Ziemmer now has nine points (3g-6a) in his last seven games. Defenceman Hudson Thornton picked up an assist and extended his point streak to five games. Thornton has six points (3g-3a) in his last five. Ethan Samson, who had an assist Saturday, has six points (1g-5a) on his current five-game point streak.
