Yesterday morning Prince George city council and members of the local Ukrainian community gathered in front of City Hall to raise the Ukrainian flag in support of Ukraine following the Russian invasion of that country.
Father Chornenkyii of the Ukrainian St. George’s Catholic Church was there to raise the flag and share a few words. He also attended Monday’s council meeting and shared some difficult words about what his people are facing back home, which opened the discussion for how the city can support the Ukrainian community.
Council voted unanimously to take a number of steps to support the Ukraine and to condemn Russia.
The City of Prince George has officially submitted its support for barring and removing Russia from competition in the upcoming Women’s World Curling Championships being held later this month here in PG at the CN Centre.
The City of Prince George is developing policy to disqualify Russia-based businesses from submitting tenders or bids through the city’s procurement process.
The City of Prince George has committed $1000 from the Council Contingency Fund to the Ukraine Crisis through the Canadian Red Cross.
