Prince George MPs have condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“I am proud to stand in solidarity with Ukraine and its people,” said Cariboo-Prince George MP Todd Doherty in a post on his Facebook page. “Conservatives condemn Vladimir Putin’s unacceptable actions in the strongest terms; this attack on the Ukrainian people and their democratically elected government is despicable and must be met with severe consequences.”

Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies MP Bob Zimmer voiced his condemnation while speaking at the hybrid winter meeting of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe Parliamentary Assembly.

“Our hearts are with our friends in Ukraine today as they face a frightening and uncertain future,” said Zimmer, who is Conservative shadow minister for Northern Affairs and Arctic Sovereignty; Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency. “Canadians stand with you. We share our European neighbours’ concerns around the Russian invasion of Ukraine and in the strongest of terms condemn the actions of Russia. We in Canada have observed with great concern the increasing interest in the Canadian Arctic and its resources also and are concerned.

“Russia – to Mr. Putin. As stated by our former parliamentary colleague Stephen Harper, you are a bully and ‘must be dealt with like all bullies; with resolute unity and force.’

“Again, to our Ukrainian friends. Canadians stand with you.”
