BC Transit is advising customers of continued disruptions in the Prince George Transit System due to the ongoing impacts of COVID-19 on employee wellness. This is resulting in the need to alter schedules and cancel trips on short notice, which is a challenge currently being faced across the province and by many other transportation agencies.
BC Transit and the City of Prince George work hard to match service with demand and provide reliable transportation services for customers. However, current impacts to service have resulted in the need to make schedule changes in the Prince George Transit System.
To minimize the impact these service challenges are having on customers, BC Transit and the operating company are posting alerts as soon as possible on the web site once trip cancellations are confirmed. BC Transit encourages customers to check for alerts regularly and sign up to receive route-specific email notifications at https://www.bctransit.com/prince-george/schedules-and-maps/alerts.
The health and safety of customers and drivers is our top priority, and all BC Transit employees, and the employees of our operating companies, are asked to stay home if they are feeling unwell. This has been our policy since the beginning of the pandemic, along with enhanced bus and facility cleaning, mandatory masks for the entirety of the customer’s transit journey and one-way passenger flow on the bus. In November 2021, BC Transit also implemented a vaccination policy for all employees and our operating companies have all confirmed compliance with this policy for their employees.
More information on our response to COVID-19, reviewed by the Provincial Health Officer and WorkSafeBC, is available at https://www.bctransit.com/covid19.
BC Transit and the operating company in Prince George are continuing to recruit and hire more drivers to reduce service impacts and improve stability in the system. Customers will have a chance to ride along with new transit operators in the coming weeks, as four more drivers are currently moving through the training process.
BC Transit understands the current service challenges are frustrating and appreciates the patience of customers and drivers during this time.
