A late third period tying goal from Rowan Miller forced extra time, but it was once again Teddy Lagerback of the Trail Smoke Eaters who scored the shootout winner, as the Spruce Kings fell 3-2 in a shootout, in another thriller at the Trail Memorial Centre on Saturday night.

PG: On a Spruce King 5 on 3, it was a great setup from Luc Laylin and John Herrington to spot Nick Rhéaume outside the left circle, and Rhéaume wired a wrist shot top corner on the blocker side of Evan Fradette to give the Spruce Kings the lead. Rhéaume’s 19th of the season was assisted by both Laylin and Herrington at 8:16.

TRA: On a Smoke Eater power-play, Quinn Disher spotted Corey Cunningham who mis fired the one time shot in tight, but the puck found Charlie Strobel at the right side of the goal, and he put it by Aaron Trotter to tie the game at one. Strobel’s sixth of the season was assisted by both Cunningham and Disher at 13:19.

TRA: Not  long after the first Trail goal, they went back to the man advantage and executed. A Brady Hunter was redirected by Teddy Lagerback in tight, and then the puck found Coalson Wolford who shovelled the puck by Trotter in tight to give the Smoke Eaters the lead. Wolford’s eight of the year had the helpers credited to both Lagerback and Hunter at 15:50.

PG: In the final minutes of the period, with the Spruce King net empty, on a delayed penalty call, John Herrington was able to spot Rowan Miller in transition in the attacking zone and Miller slid the puck through the wickets of Evan Fradette to deadlock the game at two. Miller’s 15th of the season from John Herrington came at 18:33 of the final period.
