The Prince George Spruce Kings have announced that Colton Cameron (02) has committed to play NCAA Division 1 Hockey at Bentley University for the 2023-24 season.

“It’s so exciting to be committing not only to a great hockey program, but a great school as well. It will be an awesome new experience and opportunity,” said Cameron. “It seems like a fantastic group of coaches and a great facility as well. I’m looking forward to meeting with the team and reconnecting with Mainer (former Spruce King Tanner Main) as well. I’ve always dreamed of playing division 1 hockey as a kid and it feels amazing that now it’s finally come true.”

Cameron, a 19-year-old from Cloverdale, is in his third year with the Spruce Kings. So far in the 2020-21 season, Cameron has suited up in all 28 games this year, and currently has a goal and 12 assists in those contests. In his BCHL career thus far, Cameron has played 89 games, along with four playoff games. In both the 2018-19 and the 2019-20 seasons, Cameron has been the team’s plus minus leader. In 2019-20, Cameron was also named the Spruce Kings Scholastic Award winner. Back in October of 2021, the Spruce King Assistant Captain was named a Provincial Premier Award winner in Indigenous Youth Excellence in sport and academics.

“We are very proud of Colton and he and his family are very deserving of this achievement,” said Alex Evin. “Colton has been a model Spruce King over his last three years and continually works so hard to improve both on and off the ice. We have no doubt that he will have success at the next level and beyond.”

“I’m so grateful for the time I have had so far with the Spruce Kings. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for this organization helping me every step of the way so that I could move forward,” added Cameron. “The coaching staff has been so helpful to my development as a player and the organization has been so generous in the way they have treated us. The fans are awesome, and my billet family is amazing. Everyone has made it feel like a home away from home.”

Bentley University is in Waltham, MA, which is about 25 minutes out of Boston. Bentley competes in the Atlantic Hockey Association (AHA). Spruce Kings alumni currently on the Bentley roster include Evan DeBrouwer, Lucas Vanroboys, and Tanner Main.
