Miracle Theatre’s production of On Golden Pond has been rescheduled to now begin March 23, 2022.
The production was originally scheduled to start in mid-February. The recent spread of the Omicron virus has prompted the delay in performances. The production will now run from March 23 to April 17.
“We felt delaying the performances will better protect the safety of theatre attenders, volunteers, and the performance team,” said producer Anne Laughlin. “And of course we are also determined to be in full compliance with all Public Health and Canadian Actors’ Equity Association COVID requirements.”
This year’s production will take place in the Prince George Playhouse. For On Golden Pond Miracle Theatre decided to change venues from ArtSpace to the larger Playhouse to provide much greater social distancing and ventilation.
“We certainly appreciate the City of Prince George’s decision to adjust the cost of renting the Playhouse in light of the greatly reduced seating capacity because of COVID restrictions,” said Laughlin.
Director Ted Price commented that the logistics of rescheduling are complicated but everyone has been completely understanding and supportive. It especially impacts the actors, he said.
“Because we are in regular contact they were not surprised. We hire from across Canada so the actors were all aware that since mid-December theatres across the country have been shutting down or rescheduling performances.”
Miracle Theatre is donating all proceeds from the production to start an endowment for the Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society under the management and trusteeship of the Prince George Community Foundation. Tickets are $35 and will go on sale March 1 at Books and Company or by phone at 250-563-6637. For information phone 250-563-6937.
