Emergency room at Chetwynd Hospital closes; patients told to go to Dawson Creek or Fort St. John

The Chetwynd General Hospital was put on ‘complete diversion,’ meaning it is not accepting patients, at 5:45 p.m. Monday, January 10.
The closure is until further notice.
“This temporary suspension of emergency room services is necessary to ensure safe patient care,” according to a Northern Health Facebook post.
People in the community who need emergency care should call 9-1-1 for transport to the next open emergency department in Dawson Creek or Fort St. John, or seek private transportation to these alternate facilities.
Patients who aren’t sure whether their condition would warrant an emergency room visit, or who need health advice can call HealthLink BC (8-1-1), or visit for non-emergency health information from nurses, dietitians, and pharmacists 24 hours a day, seven days per week. Alternatively, patients can also call the NH Virtual Clinic at 1-844-645-7811 (daily from 10am to 10pm) to access a family doctor or nurse practitioner:…/medical…/virtual-clinic
