Spruce Kings edged 4-3 in Salmon Arm

SALMON ARM BC – Despite a pair of power-play goals courtesy of Austin Fraser and Kolton Cousins, and a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes, the Prince George Spruce Kings were unable to close out the final 20 minutes, as they dropped a 4-3 decision against the Salmon Arm Silverbacks.

1st PERIOD:

 PG: On an early Spruce Kings power-play, Kolton Cousins found Kilian McGregor-Bennett, who fed it around the goal to Luc Laylin, who then spotted Austin Fraser in front of the goal and Fraser wired home his eighth of the season to give the Spruce Kings a quick lead. The Fraser power-play tally was assisted by both Laylin and McGregor-Bennett at 1:59.

2nd PERIOD:

PG: On another Spruce King man advantage, Kolton Cousins got the puck at the left circle and took a shot that was stopped by Owen Say, the puck was still loose in the blue paint and was eventually whacked home by the captain to double the Spruce Kings lead to 2-0. Cousins’ ninth of the year was assisted by both Austin Fraser and Kilian McGregor-Bennett at 16:21.

SA: It was a pretty passing play that was started by Simon Tassy, who found Brandon Santa Juana and the left circle and then fed it in tight to Noah Serdachny and redirected it by Aaron Trotter to get the Silverbacks on the board. Serdachny’s 11th of the season was assisted by both Santa Juana and Tassy at 18:06.

3rd PERIOD:

 SA: On a Silverback 5 on 3, Mike Ladyman had the puck inside the blue line and spotted Simon Tassy back door and tipped it by Trotter to tie the game up at two. Tassy’s league leading 22nd of the season was assisted by both Ladyman and Brandon Santa Juana at 7:04.

SA: On another Salmon Arm power-play, Brandon Santa Juana found Simon Tassy at the left circle who threw it towards the goal and it was tipped in by Noah Serdachny to give the Silverbacks the lead. Serdachny’s second of the evening and 12th of the year was assisted by both Tassy and Santa Juana at 15:01.

SA: A minute and a half later on a Spruce Kings power-play, Noah Serdachny took the puck off the stick of Dylan Schives in front of the PG goal, and Serdachny put it by Trotter to make it 4-2. Serdachny’s hat trick goal and 13th of the year was shorthanded and unassisted at 16:29.

PG: With the Spruce Kings net empty, the puck found John Herrington in the high slot and hammered a slap shot top corner by Owen Say to put the Spruce Kings within one with 49 seconds remaining in the third. Herrington’s 13th of the season was assisted by Luc Laylin and Ben LeFranc at 19:11.
