United Way holding children’s book drive Friday

On December 10, United Way of Northern BC will be hosting a children’s book drive. People in Prince George are urged to drop off new or gently used children’s books to help make literacy accessible for every child in the community.

All the books collected as part of the drive will be donated to local agencies to be used for children’s programs/services or provided directly to families/children who need them and otherwise could not afford them.

People who would like to donate can drop off the books on Friday, December 10, between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m., at the United Way of Northern BC’s office located at 1675 15th Avenue. If people are not able to drop their donations off on the day of the collection drive, they can still drop them off any time before December 23 at UWNBC’s office during weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

For every book donated, donors will receive a coupon for a warm drink provided by McDonald’s on Massey.

Santa will be on site for photos and hear Christmas wishes. So do not miss this event on Friday. Bring your kids down to see and take some pictures with Santa and do good for the community of Prince George.

The children’s book drive is a part of the United Way Tree of Lights campaign. A massive tree atop Coast Prince George Hotel by APA will be lit string by string as the donations come in. In addition to the collection drive, the UWNBC aims to raise $50,000 to support the vital social service programming and fill the gaps that the pandemic has intensified in the social service sector in Prince George.
