Shots fired near Fort St. James; public asked to avoid North Road

Fort St. James RCMP are asking people to avoid North Road as they look for two suspects who fired shots at logging trucks and stole at least two vehicles.

Police say that at about 3 a.m. Tuesday, suspects attempted to steal some equipment from the North Road and collided with an empty logging truck in the process. Two men got out of their vehicle with long guns and took several shots at the logging truck, and a second logging truck that happened on the scene.

The suspects fled in a logging truck but shortly after abandoned the logging truck and stole a Ford F350.

RCMP quickly set up containment with the assistance of Mackenzie RCMP and Takla Landing RCMP and called the Emergency Response Team and Police Dog Service to assist.

Police have recovered two guns and while reported that two guns were involved, the men should be considered armed and dangerous at this time. There have been no reports of injuries at this time.

Police are asking people to avoid travelling the North Road at this time. If you see these men or the stolen vehicle, call 9-1-1 immediately. Under no circumstances should you try to apprehend them.

If you have any information about this contact the Fort St James RCMP at (250) 996-8269.
