Man in custody after shots fired at downtown business

Quick work by police had a suspect arrested within five minutes of the initial reports of a shooting at a local business Thursday.

At 9:40 a.m. the Prince George RCMP received a report of a man with a handgun at Parkwood Shopping Centre. Witnesses said the man had shot at the window of one of the businesses.

Frontline police and the Downtown Safety Unit immediately flooded the area and located a man walking away from the shopping centre, who witnesses indicated was involved in the incident. Members of the Downtown Safety Unit recognized the man from previous police encounters and quickly placed him under arrest. While conducting a search of the man for officer safety, investigators located a pellet gun hidden on his person.

The suspect, who is well known to police for similar incidents, will remain in custody. Police are forwarding charges to the B.C. Prosecution Service. No injuries were reported in the incident.

“Only five minutes elapsed from the time police received the initial call to the time a suspect was arrested. This is another excellent example of cohesive work by both Frontline police and Downtown Safety Unit members who are committed to holding those responsible for violent crime accountable and ensuring the safety of our community,” says Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.
