Northern Capitals bring home four points from the Coast

The Northern Capitals avoided a letdown against a winless team and left the Lower Mainland with the maximum four points.

In the U18 female division of the BC Elite Hockey League, the Capitals beat the Greater Vancouver Comets 3-1 on Saturday and 6-2 on Sunday at the Richmond Olympic Oval. The Caps improved their first-place record to 11-5-0-1 and sent the Comets to their 11th and 12th losses of the season.

In Saturday’s game, Brooklyn Hutchings led the Northern Capitals with a pair of goals, and Maria Ayre also scored. In the nets, Sierra Eagles picked up the victory.

On Sunday, Hutchings added two more goals to her season total. Abby Bryant, Ayre, Camryn Ward and Hailey Armstrong also connected for the Caps, and Karsyn Niven was the winning goaltender.

The Capitals are now three points ahead of the second-place Fraser Valley Rush (10-0-0-0), but the Rush have seven games in hand.

The Caps and Rush will go head-to-head on Friday and Saturday in Langley.
