Piles of logs at the West Fraser mill in Chetwynd have gone up in flames.

The fire was sparked in the log yard at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday. Both the Chetwynd and Moberly Lake volunteer fire departments were called in to battle the blaze.

Mayor Allen Courtoreille told News 1130 that the wind carried sparks from one pile to another. He added that the

Chetwynd only has a volunteer fire department, so more volunteers from the nearby Moberly Lake volunteer fire department also responded. He added the BC Wildfire Service sent two helicopters to help battle the blaze.

He said he believes the fire was contained to the log yard.
