First degree murder charge laid against Prince George woman

Prince George RCMP have arrested a 56-year-old woman in connection to a murder in the city last year.

On Friday, investigators from the Prince George RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit arrested Prince George resident Charlene Jane Alexander for the murder of Jessie Mae Hayward-Lines. The B.C. Prosecution Service approved one count of first degree murder. Alexander will remain in custody until her next court appearance.

“This file has remained a priority for our investigators, who have worked tirelessly to get the investigation to this point,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, media relations officer for the Prince George RCMP. “We extend our deepest condolences to the family of Jessie Mae Hayward-Lines, who have endured immense grief this past year.”


At approximately 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2020, the Prince George RCMP received a report of a stabbing that occurred on the 300 block of George Street, in front of the Prince George Courthouse.

Frontline police found the 26-year-old victim suffering from a stab wound. The victim was transported to hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.

This file is currently before the courts.
