Pepper spray discharged into crowd at BCNE

Someone apparently discharged pepper spray or bear spray into the crowd at the B.C. Northern Exhibition midway Friday night.

Police were called at about 8:45 p.m. and several fair-goers reported smelling bear spray or pepper spray. A portion of the fairgrounds were temporarily evacuated until the smell cleared.

Statements from witnesses indicate that a single male youth was the target of the attack. Through investigation, officers located and arrested an 18-year-old male suspect found in possession of bear spray. The suspect was released on documents for court in November 2021.

The investigation is continuing. Anyone directly sprayed in this incident is asked to contact the Prince George RCMP at (250)561-3300.
