On July 2, at approximately 10 a.m., the Prince George RCMP received a report of a stolen vehicle from Parkwood Shopping Complex on 15th Avenue. The owner stated that woman jumped into the truck while he was standing nearby with the vehicle running. She then drove off at a high rate of speed, exiting the parking lot the wrong way through an entry.
“Frontline members began roving patrols through the city for the vehicle, which the owner described as a newer model, blue Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck. Police sighted the vehicle on Highway 16 near Ferry Avenue and observed the driver make several unsafe maneuvers at high rates of speed around other motorists. The driver collided with another vehicle in the area of Queensway and Moyie Street a short time later,” said Const. Jennifer Cooper of the Prince George RCMP.
Police attended the area of the collision along with members of the Traffic Analyst Unit, Forensic Identification Services and B.C. Emergency Health Services. Police arrested the driver of the stolen vehicle and paramedics transported her to hospital; the driver of the second vehicle did not sustain serious injury. The road remained closed for several hours while the traffic analyst and FIS members conducted their investigation.
Police released the driver with a future court date. This file is still under investigation.
