A seven-year-old girl was sexually assaulted June 3.
Prince George RCMP received a report that a seven-year-old child disclosed to her parents that she was approached by a man unknown to her near Norwood Street and Porter Avenue and that the man sexually assaulted her. Police met with the child and obtained details of the event. Investigators also collected video surveillance from the neighbourhood.
Based on their investigation, at approximately midnight on June 4, police arrested a 30-year-old Alberta man in connection with the allegations. The B.C. Prosecution Service approved the following charges against the man:
- Sexual Interference
- Invitation to Sexual Touching
- Sexual Assault
“These types of incidents are particularly concerning to police and we dedicate considerable effort and resources to solving them. Fortunately, in this case we were able to quickly identify the unknown suspect and make an arrest,” said Superintendent Shaun Wright, Officer in Charge of the Prince George RCMP.
The man appeared in court on June 10, 2021, and was released on several conditions, one of which is to reside in a jurisdiction outside of Prince George, until a future court date.
This investigation is ongoing.
