YMCA director of child care services wins provincial award

Lynette Mikalishen, Director of Child Care Services at the YMCA of Northern BC, received a Child Care Award of Excellence from the Province of BC.

Director of Child Care Services at the YMCA of Northern BC, Lynette Mikalishen, is the recipient of the 2021 Child Care Award of Excellence for the North Region from the Province of B.C.

The province presented the award Tuesday May 25, 2021.

Mikalishen has served as the Director of Child Care Services for the YMCA of Northern BC for more than a decade. During this time the YMCA of Northern BC has expanded its reach to increase child care spaces in Prince George, and provide quality child care services to Vanderhoof, Fort St. James, Fort St. John, and Chetwynd. Additionally, she has championed innovative initiatives to address the shortage of early childhood educators through training and education.

“Lynette is a true champion of ensuring child care practices continually evolve to meet children and families’ needs,” said Amanda Alexander, CEO of the YMCA of Northern BC. “She is a collaborator, bringing partners together to enhance child care offerings in the north, and has a deep commitment to truth and reconciliation by ensuring cultural competency is a core part of YMCA Child Care practice. As such, Lynette is truly deserving of this child care excellence award.”
