Man arrested after report of shot fired in downtown Prince George

One man is in custody after reports of a gunshot in downtown Prince George early Tuesday morning.

The gunshot, heard near the 1000-block of Sixth Avenue, was reported to police at 5:21 a.m. The witness said she also heard what sounded like a loud argument between and man and a woman before the sound of the gunfire.

Police immediately flooded the area and located a man and a woman near the corner of Seventh Avenue and Dominion Street. Police say they saw the man drop a bag before running away from police. After a short foot pursuit, police arrested the man without further incident. Investigators spoke with the woman and determined she had no injuries. She is cooperating with the investigation.

Examination of the bag discarded by the man revealed a firearm and a spent casing. Police arrested the him for the firearms offences and transported him to the Prince George RCMP Detachment where he will remain until he can attend a hearing later today.

“Investigators would like to speak with any witnesses who were in the area of Sixth Avenue and Seventh Avenue along Dominion Street between 5 a.m. and 5:20 a.m. and have information on what occurred this morning,” said Const. Jennifer Cooper of the Prince George RCMP. “Additionally, if anyone was driving past the area and has dash-cam footage we would like to speak with them, as well.”

The investigation is ongoing.
