Body found near Pouce Coupe; burned vehicle found eight kilometres away

2002 Grand Am, like this one, was found burned near Pouce Coupe, about eight kilometres from where a body was discovered.

The BC RCMP North District Major Crime Unit (ND MCU) has been called to assist the Dawson Creek RCMP following the discovery of a body on Sunday morning.

On Sunday, May 9, at approximately 9 am, frontline officers of the Dawson Creek RCMP were called to a report of a body, found near Highway 2 and Clark Road in Pouce Coupe.

This matter is being treated as a suspicious death and BC RCMP ND MCU has deployed and has now taken conduct of the investigation.

Investigators are working closely with the BC Coroners Service in an effort to determine the identity of the deceased and to confirm cause of death,” said Cpl. Madonna Saunderson.

Dawson Creek RCMP are also investigating a vehicle fire, which occurred the same morning at just after 5 a.m. on 198 Road, Pouce Coupe, approximately eight kilometres from where the body was discovered.

“While it is certainly too early to link the vehicle fire with the person’s death, we are alive to the potential link and seeking additional information to timeline the location of the vehicle leading up to the fire being reported,” said Saunderson. “If you saw, or know the whereabouts of a 2002 white Pontiac Grand Am in the Pouce Coupe area, between Saturday May 8, at 5 p.m. and Sunday May 9, at 5:15 a.m., we are asking you to call police.”

If anyone saw anything suspicious in the area of either the location of the body or the vehicle fire, or may have dash cam video, you are asked to contact the Dawson Creek RCMP at 250-784-3700
