Spruce Kings win Chilliwack Pod

The Prince George Spruce Kings have won the Chilliwack Pod of the pandemic-shortened BCHL season.

It all came down to the last game of the Pod season against the Chilliwack Chiefs with the winner taking it all.

The Spruce Kings came out flying with Christian Buono scoring 2:54 in to the game, assisted by Hunor Trozsok.

Tanner Main gave the Spruce Kings a two-goal lead just three minutes later and Kilian McGregor-Bennett scored at the 11:26 mark of the first to give the Spruce Kings a 3-0 lead.

Abram Wiebe got one back before the period ended.

John Herrington restored the three-goal lead in the second. Sasha Teleguine responded with one more for the Chiefs. But that would be all the scoring as the Spruce Kings shut down the Chiefs in the third to seal the win.

Aaron Trotter made 27 saves in the Spruce Kings net for the win. Mathieu Caron made 17 saves in the Chilliwack net, including a Nick Caron penalty shot, in the loss.

Buono, with one goal and two assists, was the game’s first star. Second star was the Chief’s Ethan Bowen and Teleguine was the game’s third star.
