It was a dominant effort from the Prince George Spruce Kings from the puck drop all the way to the buzzer, as the Spruce Kings defeated the Merritt Centennials by a 3-0 score, holding the opposition to just 15 shots. Hunor Torzsok, Christian Buono, and Kolton Cousins all tallied for Prince George, while Jordan Fairlie made 15 saves in a shutout victory.
Off a Centennial turnover, the puck ricocheted off the skate of Corey Cunningham to Hunor Torzsok, and Torzsok ripped a backhander blocker side past Josh Dias to give the Spruce Kings the lead. Torzsok’s third in the pod had the lone assist going to Cunningham at 8:23.
At 15:35 of the first, Kilian McGregor-Bennett got knocked down in the neutral zone, got right back up with the puck and made a fantastic feed to Christian Buono who wired a wrist shot past Dias to make it 2-0 Spruce Kings. Buono’s pod leading 13th goal was assisted by McGregor-Bennett and Colton Cameron.
On a Spruce Kings powerplay in the third, Hunor Torzsok got the puck to the goal and it was then jammed in by Kolton Cousins at the right side to get the Spruce Kings up by three. Cousins’ 8th in the pod was assisted by both Torzsok and Mason Waite at 6:32.
