After the long months of winter, it is always a welcome sight to see the first signs of spring.
Whether it’s finally being able to go outside without getting all bundled up, or seeing the grass start to peek out from under all that snow, this change of season always comes with a great sense of relief. This weekend I plan to join many of you as we do yard work, which as many of you know includes roto-raking the gravel off the lawn, as well as joining my wife in prepping the garden for the spring planting.
As the days get longer and the temperatures get warmer, I know many of us are looking forward to spending more time enjoying the great outdoors.
We are so lucky to live in one of the most beautiful regions in all of Canada and to have so many outdoor activities available to us right at our fingertips.
Whether it’s going for a bike ride or hike, enjoying a family picnic, or just spending some time planting flowers in your garden, I hope you will take advantage of this warmer weather.
For me and my family, we always enjoy the first fishing trip of the season. Some of my favourite memories are of fishing with my dad and grandfather, and I have enjoyed carrying on that tradition with my kids as well.
There is something peaceful and relaxing about holding a fishing rod and casting your line out over the open water. It is also a chance to reconnect with family and have important conversations that can’t always take place during the hustle and bustle of our daily lives.
Not only that, but it’s always exciting when the fish are biting and we can bring home dinner for the family.
These memories are important. And it is one of the many reasons why I am so passionate about ensuring that our province’s public fisheries are available to future generations.
Whatever it is that you like to do outdoors, I hope that as the warm weather approaches you and your family will have the opportunity to head outside, make some new memories, and enjoy everything our region has to offer.
