The officer noticed the vehicle at about 9 p.m. Thursday. A similar NIssan Pathfinder had been reported stolen shortly after 6 p.m. The owner stated they left the vehicle running with the keys in the car and entered their residence just long enough to get a jacket. In the moment that they were gone, someone entered the running vehicle and stole it.
While on patrol in the VLA area, a police officer saw the Pathfinder as it pulled out of a driveway. The officer followed the stolen vehicle until it stopped at a business on the 1700 block of Strathcona Avenue where he arrested the occupants.
Police identified the driver as 40-year-old Gordon Laliberte and the passenger as 37-year-old Virginia Denning. Police are familiar with both Laliberte and Denning.
The B.C. Prosecution Service has approved charges of possession of stolen property against Laliberte and Denning. The B.C. Prosecution Service also approved one charge of prohibited driving against Laliberte.
The pair are back in the community on a release order until their next court appearance at the end of March.
