Police, CVSE hand out tickets during one-day blitz in Prince George

On Wednesday, March 3, the Prince George Traffic Services Unit and Prince George Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE) joined together to enforce Motor Vehicle Act regulations throughout the city.

Over an eight-hour period, traffic services members and CVSE officers conducted mobile checks and set up checkpoints to ensure vehicles and drivers were maintaining safe driving habits.

Here are some of the statistics from their efforts:

Prince George Traffic Services:

  • 1 x Serve driving prohibition
  • 2 x Excessive speed impoundments (starts at seven day’s impoundment)
  • 7 x Speeding tickets
  • 1 x Speed in a school zone ticket
  • 1 x Fail to wear seatbelt tickets
  • 1 x Fail to slow down and move over ticket
  • 14 x Use electronic device tickets
  • 2 x Illegible plate tickets
  • 2 x Notice and Order for window tint

Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement:

  • 14 x Use electronic device tickets
  • 2 x Fail to slow down and move over tickets
  • 1 x Disobey traffic control device ticket
  • 1 x Speeding ticket
  • 2 x Notice and Order for window tint
  • 1 x Notice and Order for illegal emissions modifications

“Drivers should be aware that even though they don’t see us while they are using their phones and driving, we see them,” said Sgt. Kyle Ushock, head of the Prince George Traffic Services Unit. “The 28 tickets we handed out for using an electronic device makes this very apparent.”

March is Distracted Driving Awareness month so drivers can expect to see more of these joint enforcement efforts throughout the city during this time. Distracted driving includes using an electronic device, personal grooming, eating/drinking, reading, pets, other passengers and not knowing your route.\
