Quesnel hires new fire chief

The City of Quesnel has named Ron Richert Fire Chief for the Quesnel Fire Department. This announcement comes as outgoing Chief, Sylvain Gauthier will be retiring from the city and fire service on June 30, 2021.

Richert began his career in the fire service as a volunteer firefighter 1998, and later joined the city staff as fire inspector/safety officer in 2012 with a further promotion to Assistant Chief subsequent to that.

“Ron Richert is a proven leader in the Fire Department, committed to protecting the community of Quesnel. We are fortunate to be able to promote him to the position of Chief” said city manager Byron Johnson.

On his new position as fire chief Richert said: “I’m honoured to have become a part of Quesnel Fire Department’s long and proud tradition of serving this community.”

Regarding the outgoing Chief Gauthier, Johnson added: “The City of Quesnel would like to thank Gauthier for his dedicated service throughout the years. He has been an active member of the community, providing outstanding service to Quesnel and area.”

Richert’s official appointment to fire chief and the director of emergency services for the city will be effective as of March 2.
