Police received a report shortly after 1 a.m. on February 18, 2021 that a possibly stolen vehicle was in a parking lot at the corner of Central Avenue West and 15th Avenue
Officers approached the parking lot and activated their emergency lights and sirens. The driver of the vehicle attempted to flee the parking lot and in doing so collided with one of the police vehicles. Other officers quickly surrounded the vehicle and attempted to get the driver and passenger to exit the car; neither person complied with officer commands.
Police deployed a conducted energy weapon against one suspect to gain control of the situation. Police arrested both the driver and the passenger and took them to the detachment where they remained for court in the morning.
Upon examining the vehicle, police located a machete and a disguised conducted energy weapon within reach of the driver. Police forwarded multiple charges, including flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, resist arrest and possession of a weapon, to the B.C. Prosecution Service for charge assessment.
Emergency Health Services assessed the member involved in the collision and cleared them to return for duty with only minor injuries. This file is still under investigation.
