Rural shop fire suspected of being arson

Police are investigating a shop fire on rural property Monday as an arson.

Shortly after 5 a.m. February 15, the Prince George RCMP received a request from Prince George Fire Rescue Service for assistance at a rural property on the 5000 block of Purdue Road East.

When officers attended the location, they discovered a large detached shop was fully involved in the fire. The homeowner stated they personally extinguished a smaller fire that was located underneath the front deck of the home. The homeowner advised police they were home alone at the time.

The Prince George RCMP’s Fire Investigator attended the location and conducted a parallel investigation with the Prince George Fire Rescue Service. At this time, police are investigating this fire as an arson. There are currently no suspects.

“The Prince George RCMP would like to encourage anyone in the area with surveillance facing the road to look at their footage between 3:30 a.m. and 5 a.m. on February 15 and to advise police if there is any unusual activity caught by their cameras. Often it is just a small detail that can help give an investigation some direction,” said Cst. Jennifer Cooper, spokesperson for the Prince George RCMP.
