Independent Investigations Office investigating after man injured near Vanderhoof

The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating an incident in Vanderhoof.

Information provided by the RCMP indicates that on February 13 at approximately 10:20 a.m., police were called to conduct a wellness check at a residence on Kenney Dam Road. When officers arrived they located two women and a man inside. The man, according to police, was bound by court ordered conditions not to be in contact with the women, and was subsequently arrested. He reportedly resisted being taken into custody, and an struggle ensued.

With assistance from the other attending officer, the man was taken into custody and transported to the Vanderhoof RCMP detachment where he was assessed by BC Emergency Health Services. BC EHS transported him to a local hospital where it was determined he sustained serious injury.

The IIO is asking any person who saw, heard or recorded the incident to please contact the Witness Line toll-free at 1-855-446-8477 or via the contact form on the iiobc.ca website.
