Construction is proceeding on the City of Prince George’s Mausoleum expansion project. As part of the operation, the city will need to close the facility to the public starting on February 1 to replace flooring and remodel part of the existing structure to match the expansion.
The city anticipates the Mausoleum will reopen to the public for regular 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. hours on February 5. The Mausoleum and the Prince George Cemetery are open to the public each day of the week during these hours. The Mausoleum expansion is expected to be opened to the public by the end of March.

In 2019, council approved borrowing $1.4 million for an approximately 1200-square-foot addition onto the existing facility, including 900 new glass and marble front niches. The popularity of cremation has grown in Prince George in recent years and the facility’s current 423 niches are all occupied.
Next week, the new niches will arrive and are expected to take about three to four weeks to install. The expansion is attached to the existing mausoleum with a shared entryway, and similarly features a timber-frame ceiling and large windows that provide abundant natural lighting. Enhanced safety features such as improved lighting, security systems, and security windows will also be installed prior to the opening of the expansion area to the public.
The public is encouraged to subscribe to “facility updates and closures” on the city website to keep informed about the project and possible facility closures or changes of hours at www.princegeorge.ca/subscribe.
