Smithers police investigate explosion

On Saturday, January 9, at 5:48 p.m., Smithers RCMP received a report of an explosion on Victoria Drive in the community.

Police attended Truck Pro where it was learned that a drum, with oil residue, had been placed in a snowbank, filled with a combustible substance and ignited resulting in a large explosion. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries.

Police are looking to speak to anyone who may have knowledge of this matter. This could have had a very different ending where people could have been seriously injured or perhaps worse said S/sgt Terry Gillespie, NCO i/c Smithers RCMP.
