Thieves target firearms and ammunition in daytime break-and-enter

Shortly after 6 p.m. on December 14, the Prince George RCMP were notified of a residential break and enter at a home in Miworth.

Sometime during the day, one or more suspects entered the home and pried open a gun safe.  The suspect(s) took five handguns and the matching magazines from inside the safe.

Investigators believe that the suspects targeted the residence and the safe in order to steal the firearms.

“Guns were clearly targeted in this break and enter,” said Const. Jennifer Cooper, spokesperson for the Prince George RCMP.  “Every gun owner should take all precautions to secure their firearms and should refrain from discussing locations and details of their guns with others.”

One of the firearms was located on Tuesday by a member of the public. The gun was hidden in some garbage in an alleyway. This may have been an attempt to hide the firearm for future use.

If you have any information about this targeted criminal offence, please contact the Prince George RCMP at (250)561-3300 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1(800)222-8477 or online at www.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca (English only).  You do not have to reveal your identity to Crime Stoppers.  If you provide information that leads to an arrest or recovery of stolen property, you could be eligible for a cash reward.
