On Saturday, December 19, between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., the United Way of Northern BC will be hosting a ‘drive-through to donate’ event.
In the spirit of the Tree of Lights, the Powerhouse Plaza will be decorated with Christmas lights and trees and Santa will be on site to interact with passing cars and listen to the requests of kids. People will be able to make donations to the light bulbs/strings on the tree form the comfort of their cars.
People can come as they are, or can take it to the next level by dressing up in Santa hats and ugly sweaters.
The first 200 people to drive through and donate will receive a coupon for a McDonald’s hot chocolate and a candy cane.
The first 50 cars to drive through and donate will receive a $10 Mr. Mike’s gift card.
And anyone who donates will be eligible for a draw for one of the following prizes: Escape Platinum hands-free stereo Bluetooth speaker with FM radio; $50 gift certificate for Tim Hortons; Panago Pizza one free meal gift certificate (approximately $50 value); Northern Hart Designs $100 gift certificate.
The event is part of the Tree of Lights campaign where the goal is to raise $30,000 by December 22 with proceeds going towards raising awareness and support of programs and services to fight the #unignorable issue of drug abuse and overdoses in Prince George and the other issues that surround it like mental wellness and basic needs.
