Christmas has always been a special time for my family and I hope that you will have a chance to safely connect with your family and loved ones this holiday season.

There is no doubt that this year has been a year like no other, but here in Northeastern BC we look out for one another and take care of each other during difficult times. I know this Christmas will be no different.

I want to thank our incredible frontline healthcare workers who are working tirelessly every day to protect our region and help keep us safe and healthy. I also want to thank our caregivers who continue to care for our most vulnerable seniors.

As we all prepare for the holidays, I once again encourage everyone who is able to continue to shop local. These small businesses are the backbone of our communities and they need our support.

As I recently said in the House of Commons, perhaps now more than ever we all need to be reminded of the joy of the very first Christmas, so I’d like to finish with these timeless words:

“Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.’  And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: ‘Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!’” Luke 2:8-14 (NKJV)

From my family and staff to all of you, may we remember the true joy and everlasting meaning of the season.

Merry Christmas!
