Early morning shooting on Upland Street

A man is recovering from a gunshot wound following an early morning shooting on Upland Street Thursday.

Police were called out at about 2:15 a.m. after receiving several reports of shots fired on Upland Street near 20th Avenue.

Officers attended the area and discovered a man with a single gunshot wound.  The man was transported to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Through investigation, officers believe that three people were walking together on Upland Street and had a verbal interaction with two men on bikes.  At least one of the cyclists pulled out a handgun and fired towards the others, striking one of them.  The cyclists fled before police were called.  At this time, it is not believed that the victims knew the suspects.

A police dog service team assisted other officers in searching for the suspects, however none were located.

There is no evidence to indicate that this shooting is related to any other recent incident.  The investigation is continuing.
