Council rejects application for third downtown cannabis store

Council was evenly split on whether to approve a new cannabis store downtown.

With Coun. Murry Krause absent, the remaining eight councillors voted 4-4 on a temporary use permit for Epik Products, which was proposing to locate a store at 356 George Street. A tie vote at council means the motion fails.

City staff had recommended rejecting the application, which would have been in close proximity social service providers and to two other cannabis shops in the downtown.

Councillors Garth Frizzell, Terri McConnachie, Kyle Sampson and Brian Skakun supported the proposal, while Mayor Lyn Hall and councillors Cori Ramsay, Frank Everitt and Susan Scott opposed it.
