Suspected COVID-19 exposure in the Nass Valley

The Nisga’a Valley Health Authority says it has been notified of a COVID-19 case involving a person who travelled to the Nass Valley sometime between August 17-28, to attend a funeral.

Due to the high risk of COVID-19 transmission, Nisga’a Valley Health Authority is requesting that all attendees at the arrived of the deceased, the memorial, funeral, and/or settlement feast in Gitlagt’aamicks, between Aug. 21-25, contact the Nisga’a Valley Health Authority clinic in their community and also notify their respective village government chief administrative officer. If outside the Nass Valley, individuals are requested to contact their own health authority and identify as a potential COVID-19 contact.

The health authority is calling for all those who attended the funeral services to self-isolate for 14 days. It has also imposed travel restrictions in and out Nisga’a lands to essential travel for non-contact members only.
