The Independent Investigations Office of BC has been notified of an incident in Prince George involving the RCMP which resulted in injuries to one man.
Just before 7:30 p.m. on July 30, officers from the Prince George RCMP received a report from an in vehicle tracking company that a truck, stolen from Alberta, was mapping in the Prince George area. Police received another report that a truck, bearing the licence plates of the stolen vehicle, had driven into a lot in the 1400-block of Old Cariboo Highway, three individuals, two women and one man, exited the truck and fled on foot.
The two women were located separately, a short distance away, while the man was taken into custody following a short track with a police dog. One woman was released without charge, while the other woman and man were transported to the Prince George RCMP detachment, where it was discovered the man was suffering from injuries, which were later determined to be serious. He was transported to a local area hospital, where he remains.
Prince George RCMP frontline officers are continuing the criminal investigation, which includes allegations of possession of a stolen vehicle, break and enter, driving while prohibited, possession of a controlled substance, and breach.
IIO BC is investigating to determine whether police actions are linked to the man’s injuries. As the matter is now under investigation by the IIO BC, no further information will be released by police.
