City road rehabilitation work set to start

Next month, crews will begin the city’s capital road and sidewalk rehabilitation projects for the 2020 paving season. About 41 lane kilometres of road and 2.5 kilometres of sidewalk is scheduled for rehabilitation or construction this year. Each year, major paving operations must wait until the asphalt plants start up in early to mid-May.

This year’s largest road project is expected to be a three-kilometre section on Bellamy Road in the Hart Neighbourhood. The largest sidewalk operation will the rehabilitation of the asphalt sidewalk on Patricia Boulevard from Queensway to Taylor Drive.

Street Sweeping and line painting

Despite the fact that pothole patching and street sweeping operations were delayed for a few weeks this spring due to the long winter, crews have already patched about 650 potholes so far this year. Sweeping operations have been underway for a couple of weeks and will continue into the early summer. Line painting is expected to begin in early May and to be completed by the end of June.

As all of these operations occur outdoors, poor weather can influence timelines.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution around all road crews.
