RCMP officer pulls man from the Fraser River

A man is dead this morning despite a heroic effort by a local RCMP officer to save him.

Just before 1 a.m., the Prince George RCMP received a call from a concerned motorist who witnessed a man jump from the Simon Fraser Bridge in Prince George.

Officers attended the scene and at various points along the Fraser River.  Just after 2 a.m., an officer saw a man in the river and heard him yelling near the Creekside subdivision, approximately five kilometres from the bridge.

Const. Stu Love entered the river, swam approximately 25 metres to the man and pulled him back to shore.  The man was transported to hospital for treatment of life threatening injuries including hypothermia.  Unfortunately, just before 4 a.m., the man passed away.

At this time, the identity of the man remains unknown.  The investigation is continuing.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the Prince George RCMP at 250-561-3300.

Const. Love is resting and recovering at home.
