Five women were briefly detained along the Morice West Forest Service Road Sunday.
Police say that just after 5 p.m. officers saw a vehicle with what appeared to a purposefully obstructed licence plate, parked on the road near a Coastal GasLink storage compound.
Just prior to the traffic stop, three women were seen running from the compound to the vehicle, according to police. Officers observed what appeared to be damage to a light generator and began a mischief investigation, as well as a breach of a Supreme Court injunction allowing Coastal GasLink to work on the pipeline despite opposition from some Wet’suwet’en hereditary chiefs.
The five women inside the vehicle were detained briefly, identified, and released. Police have since determined the women were not involved in the mischief, however the breach investigation remains ongoing.
