Prince George city council will continue to hold scheduled meetings while ensuring appropriate distance between individuals and complying with an order from the Provincial Medical Health Officer to limit gatherings to no more than 50 people.
This will result in some changes in attendance at Council meetings and preparation of Council Chambers:
- Councillors attending in person will be seated with one empty chair between them. In addition, only required staff will attend and participate in the meeting.
- Council Chambers will be sanitized as per the enhanced cleaning protocol that is being implemented at civic facilities. This involves World Health Organization cleaning standards, using WHO-recommended cleaning products.
- Members of the public who wish to sit in the gallery will be required to sit approximately two metres apart.
Public hearings for planning and land use-related bylaws will continue to be scheduled as part of regular council meetings.
Members of the public who may be uncomfortable being present in council chambers for a public hearing are reminded that they can also provide written comment. Written comments should be forwarded to the corporate officer by 5 p.m. on the Tuesday prior to the council meeting in order to be included in council’s agenda package. Submissions received after this time will be provided to council on the day of the public hearing for council’s consideration. Submissions may be sent by email to cityclerk@princegeorge.ca, faxed to (250) 561-0183, or mailed/ delivered to City Hall prior to the start of the hearing.
Meetings of Council Committees are also continuing as scheduled.
The next public meeting of Prince George city council is on Monday, March 23, at 6 p.m. The agenda for the meeting, as well as other information about council meetings and communicating with members of council, is available at www.princegeorge.ca/council.
