Council to ponder rezoning to allow Domino’s Pizza on Alward Street

City council tonight will consider a rezoning request that, if approved, could see a Domino’s Pizza located at 525 Alward Street, a block away from Fifth Avenue and Carney Street.

The request to change the property from multiple residential to commercial conversion is being made by Devinder and Sarjawan Parmar. In addition to a Domino’s Pizza, they would like to have ancillary offices and a training space at the location.

The location is part of an active transportation network, as it is connected to existing sidewalks and is in close proximity to transit stops (25 m), and multiple bike lanes, according to the staff report going to council.  It is within walking distance to local neighbourhoods, businesses and Duchess Park Secondary. As the proposed Domino’s Pizza Restaurant is a food and beverage establishment located in close proximity to the intersection of a collector and arterial road and is intended to draw residents from surrounding areas, is it consistent with the Neighbourhood Corridor Designation.
