Five-vehicle pile-up on Highway 16 west of city

A five-vehicle crash on Highway 16 near Dahl Lake Road Tuesday morning snarled traffic for several hours.

Weather and road conditions may have played a role in the chain reaction collision that resulted in one person being taken to hospital with injuries that have been described as minor.

The crash, in the area known at ‘potato flats,’ happened just before 8:30 a.m.

Three commercial vehicles and two personal vehicles were involved and the crash resulted in the complete closure of the highway as emergency crews worked to clear the vehicles from the roadway. The road was later opened to single vehicle alternating traffic.
