Spruce Kings notch a 4-3 win in Coquitlam

A strong second period propelled the Prince George Spruce Kings to a 4-3 win over the Coquitlam Express Wednesday.

Coquitlam jumped out into a 2-0 lead in the first period on the strength of goals from Will Margel and Joshua Wildauer.

The second period, however, belonged to the Spruce Kings as Masson Reeves, Nolan Welsh, and Nick Bochen each scored to give the Prince George squad a 3-2 lead after two.

Corey Cunnginham scored early in the third to give the Spruce Kings a two-goal cushion which was reduced to one with 35 seconds left to play by Wildauer’s second of the game.

Carter Woodside got the win in net for the Spruce Kings, stopping 28 shots in the process. Joe Howe and Clay Stevenson combined to make 16 saves in the losing cause.

The Spruce Kings went 0/5 on the powerplay while the Express when 1/3.
