A goaltender’s duel it wasn’t as the Coquitlam Express skated to an 8-5 win over the Prince George Spruce Kings Saturday to sweep the weekend series.
Prince George jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first on the strength of two goals from Corey Cunningham and Thomas Richter.
Coquitlam, however, got two back before the end of the first as Greg Lapointe and Cooper Connell found the twine. The Express took the lead in the second as Connor Greggma and Adam Trotman each notched a goal.
Domenic Garozzo scored unassisted to tie the score at four. However, that was shortlived as the Express took the lead for good before the end of the second off the stick of Ethan O’Rourke.
O’Rourke added his second of the game early in the third to give the Express a two-goal lead. Nolan Welsh replied for the Spruce Kings to bring them within one. However, Connell added his second of the game and Joshua Wildauer added an empty-netter.
Jett Alexander made 19 saves in the Prince George net while made 16 saves in the Coquitlam net and notched the win.
