There’s disappointing news for students in School District No. 57 this morning – the Canfor elementary skills trailer was stolen overnight from the Buckhorn Elementary school grounds.
The trailer is used to transport tools, equipment and supplies to elementary schools throughout School District No. 57. Once the trailer is onsite at a location, elementary skills teacher Trevor Pearen uses it as a home base from which to deliver programming to students. Inside the school gymnasiums, Pearen typically leads the students in woodworking projects as part of hands-on learning opportunities.
The trailer was scheduled to be at Buckhorn from Monday to Friday this week. The good news is that the trailer was mostly empty when it was stolen. Most of the equipment and tools were in the Buckhorn gym. It’s estimated there was $1,000 worth of equipment and supplies in the trailer at the time of the theft.
The trailer was equipped with a hitch lock.
The incident has been reported to Prince George RCMP and a file is open.
The trailer is scheduled to be at Nusdeh Yoh Elementary School next week. If it is not recovered by then, SD 57 personnel will transport tools and equipment to Nusdeh Yoh via a fleet of trucks.
