Autism BC’s annual Quiet Time with Santa set for November 30

Autism BC is bringing back to Prince George a popular Christmas tradition for kids with special needs. For kids with autism and other related disorders, a “normal” Santa visit can be a nightmare. Santa visits are usually held in busy locations, such as shopping malls, where noise, smells and other stimulants can be overwhelming and in some cases, frightening to children who have sensory issues.

Autism BC’s Quiet Santa Time will provide children with a quiet, sensory friendly space where they can meet Santa on their own terms. Children may interact with Santa in a way that’s comfortable for them; they don’t have to sit on his lap if they don’t want to.

The Quiet Time with Santa event will be held November 30 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Pacific Autism Family Centre – Prince George Spoke, second floor, 1811 Victoria Street.

The goal is for this to be a safe and fun event for children. During the Quiet Santa Time, a professional photographer will take a digital photograph of each child, and will e-mail the photo to the parent, free of charge, and before Christmas. This way, while the kids are having fun, the parents can relax that the Santa visit won’t break their family’s budget.

The Pacific Autism Family Centre’s Prince George Spoke, located on the second floor of the newly expanded Gateway Centre, is an autism friendly space that opened in April 2018. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided, and each kid that visits Santa in some way, and allows their photo to be taken, will receive a small toy or gift as a reward.

Santa will be available between 10 a.m. and noon, with The photographer is available during the same hours Santa is visiting.

No registration is required, but if you wish, you may RSVP by phoning Corey at 250-961-7620. You may call this same phone number for more information on the event.
